The Alternative Energy Fund is an unlisted investment trust targeting equity and equity related investments in alternative energy assets. The objective of the fund is to invest in a diversified portfolio of alternative energy assets which are likely to benefit from growing electricity demand, an increasing environmental focus with respect to carbon emissions, energy supply diversification and Australia’s progressive emissions trading scheme.

The Fund will take on a development focus, given the nascent stage of the industry and look to make investments in uranium mines, wind farms, silos, biomass and geothermal projects. We will invest alongside capable operators and developers of these assets where both parties can utilise each other’s strengths.

Australia’s greatest contribution to global carbon reduction targets will likely come through an expansion in uranium exports. The reversal of the long-held “three mines policy” by the ALP and Western Australia’s recent decision to allow uranium mine development will mean significant growth in the industry. The Fund will make substantial investments in this sector.

The Fund will initially focus on the Australia-Pacific region; however will diversify investments globally toward the latter stages of the investment period.
